RCMP said an investigation was underway into a potential threat directed at a student attending Memorial Composite High School in Stony Plain Thursday afternoon.

RCMP said officers were called to Memorial High School at about 1 p.m. Thursday, after they were notified of a potential threat that had been made toward a student at the school.

Police said the school was placed on lockdown as a precaution at about 3:15 p.m., and police combed the area and cleared the school looking for the suspect.

Just before 3:30 p.m. Parkland School Division posted on their Facebook page that there was a situation at Memorial Composite High School, and that RCMP were involved.

Details of the incident were not outlined in the post.

Just over half an hour later, another post said the situation had resolved, and students were allowed to go home.

RCMP said administration at the school and school division were immediately advised of the concern, and communicated directly with parents – and at the public, school officials or students were never at risk.
