Officials said Friday that charges laid against a high-ranking Canadian Forces member had been dropped.

The charges against Lieutenant-Colonel Mason Stalker were dropped Friday, more than a year after he was charged.

The charges stem from a series of incidents that reportedly took place between 1998 and 2007 in Edmonton, while Stalker was a mentor with local army cadet corps.

During a preliminary hearing in August, three of the ten charges he initially faced were dropped. The remaining seven were dropped Friday.

In a statement, Alberta Justice said the decision to drop the charges “due to there no longer being a reasonable likelihood of securing a conviction.”

When Stalker’s charges were first released in July, 2015, Canadian Forces officials said he had been suspended.

When news of his charges being dropped was released Friday, officials at the Canadian Forces released a statement that said the organization was aware of the development.

“Based on this recent development, Lieutenant-Colonel Stalker will be employed in a manner consistent with his rank, qualifications and experience.”

A statement was also released Friday on behalf of Stalker:

“I have always maintained my innocence in this matter and I am reassured that due process has resulted in the withdrawal of all charges.”

Stalker’s lawyer Dino Bottos released a statement late Friday:

“Lt. Col. Stalker has asserted his innocence from the moment these allegations were made against him. In this case, the investigation conducted by the military police was troubling because even a cursory examination of the evidence shows that the allegations could not possibly have been true. It simply accepted the complainant’s story without thinking critically whether the allegations could be true.

“The complainant’s allegations were inconsistent with evidence found in Lt. Col. Stalker’s personnel file. The Military Police could have easily examined Mr. Stalker’s personnel file and compared those facts with the allegations against him and come to the same conclusion, but unfortunately they did not. Lt. Col. Stalker has suffered greatly as a result of this poor investigation and is relieved that that he can now put this behind him. Ultimately, Mr. Stalker has had an exemplary military career and looks forward to returning to serving his country.”
