Edmonton police said a teenaged boy is facing a number of charges stemming from an attack that left a woman suffering from serious injuries over the weekend.

Police said on Saturday, just before 4:30 p.m., officers were called to Mill Woods Park in the area of 23 Avenue and 66 Street, near the pond – on reports that a woman had been badly injured.

The person who reported the incident to police reportedly stayed at the scene until officers and paramedics arrived.

The woman, who EPS said is 36-years-old, was taken to hospital with life threatening injuries. At last word she was in critical but stable condition.

After investigating the incident, the 17-year-old boy who called police was arrested; he is facing charges of aggravated sexual assault, possession of a weapon and three counts of breach of recognizance.

The accused can’t be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Police are seeking witnesses to the incident, anyone who was in the area on Saturday between 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.

“Although you may think what you saw is insignificant, it could possibly assist with the investigation,” Det. Dave Pelech with Sexual Assault Section said in a press release.
