It’s a one-of-a-kind show that’s set to open at the Telus World of Science, and CTV News was the first to get a peek at everything Harry Potter: The Exhibition will offer Edmontonians.

The show features hundreds of film artifacts and costumes used in all eight Harry Potter movies, displayed in a series of settings inspired by the films.

“These are the originals, they’re not replicas,” Mike Steger with Telus World of Science said. “So you can see what the actors and actresses wore.”

Items including Harry Potter’s school uniform, his famous spectacles and wand are on display – along with a number of other film props only recently added to the show.

“The horcruxes were what Lord Voldemort put pieces of his soul into,” Steger said. “And the Deathly Hallows were items, that if you possessed them, they had a lot of power.”

The variety of props and costumes are shown in a series of different settings – such as the Forbidden Forest, Hogwarts Classrooms, Hagrid’s Hut and the Great Hall.

Ahead of the exhibition’s official opening later this week, giant chess pieces from the first film in the series “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” are on display at the International Airport – and the preview is sparking a little Potter-mania.

“I’m really excited for it, just because I’ve grown up with Harry Potter,” fan Moira Wyton said. “From the time I was in second grade I read it, and now I’m in Grade 12.”

“The reaction has been phenomenal,” Steger said. “More than we saw with Star Wars.”

Edmonton is the final Canadian stop for the exhibition, its set to head to Sweden after it closes in early 2014.

The show will run from November 23, 2013 to March 9, 2014 – tickets are available at the Telus World of Science.
