An Edmonton woman has died following a fall on an icy sidewalk.

Police have confirmed that the woman, in her 50s, was found laying on a sidewalk at 154 Street and 99 Avenue around 8 a.m. Saturday.

“When the police got there EMS was already doing CPR on this female,” Staff Sgt. Barry Maron explained.

The woman was transported to hospital where she later died.

Officials said they believe the victim hit her head during the fall but were still investigating.

“Medical examiner hasn’t finished their investigation yet so we are still waiting on that,” Maron said.

He added that it served as a reminder for residents to keep their sidewalks clear.

“As it melts you get that runoff that creates those icy patches.

“It can happen to anyone.”
