The woman who was the subject of a recent CTV/W5 investigation made a court appearance in Leduc Thursday. Caron Oderbien is accused of stealing charity money from people in Edmonton.

She appeared in court on charges of theft for allegedly stealing a rental car from a company in Nisku.

Oderbien has been convicted of fraud both in Canada and the U.S.

She became the subject of a CTV/ W5 investigation after people began to come forward claiming that she had lied to them and stolen money from them.

The woman had made her way to Edmonton after allegedly stealing thousands of dollars that was promised to benefit a young cancer patient in New Brunswick.

In Edmonton, Oderbien ran a charity event called Ride for the Troops, which was intended to build a retreat for local soldiers. But that fell apart and money disappeared. The website for the event initially said it would fill seats in Commonwealth Stadium.

"It was at Commonwealth, then it was at the Jubilee [Auditorium], then it was at this bar called Rednex in Morinville... I think it is," said Brian Tremblay who bought $800 worth of tickets for the event.

Tremblay said he didn't know at that time that Oderbien had been convicted of fraud twice.

"What I've put in is such a small amount to everything she's taken. I just really want to catch her," he said.

Another man claims he was burned by the same woman. Curtis O'Brien said he thought he was helping her raise money for youth sports. The charity hockey game Play it Forward never happened and O'Brien said very few people who bought tickets received much of a refund.

"She actually deposited into people's accounts through Paypal a penny -- and that's all that she gave them."

The Fort McMurray RCMP have confirmed their fraud unit is investigating Oderbien's role in charities located in that region.

Oderbien is scheduled to head back to court on theft charges on December 16th.
