An Alberta peace officer is dead in a bizarre case that saw the injured officer dropped off at a Calgary police station Friday.

Police say MD of Foothills Community Peace Officer Rod Lazenby was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Emergency crews were called to the District 8 office in the community of Minapore, which is where the officer was dropped off.

Turner Valley RCMP, RCMP Major Crimes Unit and Calgary police are now investigating.

Police say they have secured potential crime scenes including a rural residence near Turner Valley and the vehicle that the officer was transported in.

Calgary police currently have one subject of interest in custody, however, no charges have been laid.

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
