Six men are facing charges after a marijuana grow op was discovered north of High Prairie.

On August 5, officers executed a search warrant, seizing over 6,500 marijuana plants being grown in 12 portable Quonset huts. The grow op was described as being a fairly sophisticated operation due to the location, watering systems and concealment.

Investigators estimate the seizure would have effectively removed the equivalent of more than two million marijuana joints from reaching the streets.

The drugs seized by police have an estimated street value of $6.5 million.

RCMP charged Tri Anh Phan, Guang Ping Chen, Chia Haung Fei, Hung Duy Hoang, Cuong Viet Nguyen, and Tuan Anh Tran with possession of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking and possession of a stolen water pump.

The six men made their first appearance in a provincial court Monday morning. They will be back in court August 16.
