The city introduced an online tool Thursday to help ETS bus users keep tabs on the location of their bus, and when it’s expected to arrive.

ETS Live allows riders to track two specific bus routes in the city in real-time, using their computers or mobile devices.

Currently, the bus finder can track Routes 111 and 128 live, while providing routes and schedule information for other ETS routes.

The program is the latest addition to ETS Smart Bus technology, introduced in June.

Lorna Stewart, ETS’ Director of Technology Projects, said ETS Live will enhance service and allow transit users to adjust their travel plans.

“If there is an incident or emergency on the bus we can deploy transit inspectors or the police to that location immediately, without having to estimate where it would be along the route,” Stewart said.

While the real-time function of the app is starting small, it’s hoped the app will expand to cover all bus routes over the next two years.

It will be up to the City’s Transportation Committee to determine if the $20 million program is worth funding, in January.
