Several Edmonton families delivered Christmas to Slave Lake on Saturday.

A busload of donations, including Christmas lights, decorations and board games were taken to the community as it continues to rebuild after a devastating fire earlier this year.

Many have not been able to rebuild their homes and will be spending the holidays in temporary housing blocks.

"They're in a trailer," spokesperson of Families for Families Group, Jackie Fetter said.

"They don't have anything."

Seven families were involved and they said they were only looking to help out.

"You just do things because it's right not because there is any benefit," Fetter said.

She added that she was thrilled at the result.

"When the fires happened everybody was doing so much and we wanted to do something and we thought ‘You know what? No.' When they are giving to need it is when it's Christmas time," she explained.

"This has exceeded our expectations."

Families in Slave Lake said they were very moved by the donations.

"It means a lot that people are thinking about us," Kristin Hallwood said.

"It's been a bit tough trying to get in the Christmas spirit.

"It was hard not to be in our house," she explained.

Another seasonal delight has been planned for the Slave Lake community as the Stanley Cup will make a stop on December 13.
