EPS Homicide detectives are looking into a suspicious death in south Edmonton.
Officers were called out to deal with a weapons complaint in the area of 28 Avenue and 116 Street around 8:35 p.m., Sunday evening.
Once on the scene officers found the body of a 27-year-old man.
Another resident of the neighbourhood said eight police cars rushed to the apartment building, along with an ambulance.
“[EMS] took their bags out and went to the door, they were turned around, they went back to the ambulance and left,” Daniel Boudreau said.
Boudreau also said at about the time the alleged crime occurred – he saw a young woman sitting on the deck of the suite where it happened, she and a man were led away by police a short time later.
Investigators said the body was found by the victim’s two roomates.
Police would not go into details, but a spokesperson said the crime scene tape could stay up for at least another day.
“As I understand it [after] speaking to [the Homicide Unit] this morning, the investigation is a fairly complex one,” EPS Spokesperson Scott Pattison said Monday morning. “They’ve got the scene cordoned off still, and it likely will be cordoned off for the next 48 hours.”
The Medical Examiner took the body of the victim away from the scene Monday afternoon.
Police say an autopsy on the victim is expected to take place sometime Tuesday.
By Monday afternoon, police said no arrests had been made, and did not reveal if they had any suspects.
The victim’s name has not been released.
