Edmonton police are investigating after a man was found dead in the city’s southeast.

Officers responded to a home around 35 Avenue and 60 Street around 1:10 a.m. Saturday.

Police said there had been a gathering at the home when a fight broke out.

“Two people who were not necessarily friends, but were known to each other, got into an altercation. That altercation became serious,” Edmonton Police Services spokesperson, Clair Seyler, explained.

Officers were called in when those at the house realized the victim was not breathing.

“When officers arrived they confirmed there was a male in his 30s who was pronounced dead on the scene.”

The homicide unit has now been put in charge of the investigation.

Officials said witnesses have been cooperating with authorities but they do not have anyone in custody.

Police said the victim was not known to them.
