An extensive search of a landfill located north of Lloydminster, has resulted in the discovery of human remains.

Last Friday, Dozens of RCMP officers began combing through the content of the landfill. Earlier this week, police say human remains were found, which are currently undergoing forensic examination.

"The actual search moved to physically check the landfill site after interviews with the people involved. Certainly there were a lot of rumours, a lot of speculation on social media. We don't usually pay too much attention to that because usually that's very misinformed and uninformed opinions out there. We have to work on some type of basis of information," said Sgt. Patrick Webb with the RCMP.

The RCMP became involved in this investigation after a 911 call was made on November 19th, when a female suffered medical difficulties after childbirth. Police say the child was not accounted for at that time and their investigation led them to the Lloydminster landfill site.

Police say no arrests or charges have been made to this time.
