Edmonton police said Monday that officers with the Homicide Unit were investigating the death of a woman in her 20s.

Police said officers were called at 5:30 a.m. Sunday to a southwest Edmonton home in the area of 49 Avenue and 111A Street after shots were reportedly fired.

When officers and paramedics arrived, they found a 27-year-old woman who had suffered gunshot wounds.

She was treated at the scene and then taken to hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.

Now, police are searching for two suspects who fled the residence – it’s believed they were driving a small, two-door, black vehicle.

The first suspect is described as:

  • Male
  • Mid-to-late 20s
  • 188 cm (6’2”) tall
  • About 113 kg (250 lbs)
  • Husky-build
  • Olive-skinned
  • Long black hair

The suspect was last seen wearing a white and blue t-shirt.

The second suspect is described as:

  • Male
  • Mid-to-late 20s
  • 183 cm (6’) tall
  • Slim build
  • Olive-skinned
  • Black hair

He was last seen wearing a black shirt and blue jeans.

Both suspects are believed to be armed and dangerous.

“We believe this residence was specifically targeted and the incident was drug-related,” Staff Sgt. Bill Clark with the EPS Homicide Section said in a press release.

An autopsy has been scheduled for Tuesday, July 14.
