The driver of the Jeep that fatally injured a woman after a stunt went wrong has taken to Facebook to express his regret.

“I have never been so terrified in my life and I am soooooooooo sorry, I know there will be a ton of hatred and speculation regarding what happened, and I accept that,” Craig Supernault wrote.

"I am in absolute emotional hell right now over this accident,” he added.

“The only thing I can say from an incidental standpoint, is that that jeep should NOT have moved........period all the brakes were engaged and the clutch was at the floor. It SHOULD NOT HAVE MOVED!!!!”

His post came after the vehicle he was driving hit a 20-year-old woman during a stunt at the Jeeps Go Topless Day event Saturday.

Many gathered Saturday evening for a candlelight vigil to honour the woman.

Ally Babiuk, who was standing just 10 feet away from the victim, said she came out to offer her support to Supernault and the off-roading community.

“I thought he just hit the other guy’s Jeep,” she explained.

“It was scary. We weren’t expecting anything like this.”

Many were still dropping flowers by Sunday and trying to work through the emotions of the tragedy.

“My heart goes out for this woman and I had to put my flowers out of respect for her,” Daniel Darchen explained.

Sarina St. Germaine is a member of Alberta JK and said Jeep owners maintain a tight community.

“We just want everyone to know that we are very safe in what we do this was not anything that anyone could have foreseen.

“Every precaution was taken this event was planned to the last detail no one ever intended anyone to get hurt.”
