A 20-year-old woman has died during a special event at the Oliver Square shopping centre Saturday.

Police said the incident happened just after 1 p.m. after a Jeep SUV lost control during a climbing demonstration.

“He kinda lost control and just drove up onto the silver jeep with the girl lying on top of it,” eyewitness Desiree Hallworth explained to CTV News.

“There were people doing CPR and stuff on her to stabilize her until paramedics came.”

The woman was taken to hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The driver of the vehicle was also taken to hospital but police said his injuries were not as serious.

The incident occurred at the second annual Jeeps go Topless Day, a fundraiser for the Food Bank.

Police have asked for anyone who witnessed the event, or those who may have video of the incident, to contact their complaint line, 780-423-4567 or #377 from a mobile phone.

Information can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers, 1-800-222-8477.

Officials said this was the 10th traffic fatality of the year.
