Edmonton police have laid a number of charges against a young Grande Prairie man, after a serious collision unfolded early Wednesday morning and left a total of six people in hospital.

Police were called to the area of 107 Street and 121 Avenue after 2 a.m., where a southbound car collided with a northbound taxi.

Four people inside the taxi were rushed to hospital, and one of those men remains on life support – that 25-year-old man was resuscitated by paramedics on the way to hospital.

Police said the seriously injured man had been riding in the taxi with his fiancée.

Two people from the car, a male driver and female passenger, fled the scene on foot, but were tracked down by the EPS Canine Unit near 97 Street and 122 Avenue, and taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries – before being taken into custody.

The car involved in the collision had a stolen license plate.

Investigators later said the car hit a concrete median, before colliding head-on with the taxi, pushing the taxi off the road.

EPS said Chris Lane Lindgren, 21, is facing a number of charges including five counts of criminal hit and run, and possession of stolen property – more charges could be laid pending toxicology results.

Police had closed 107 Street for some time following the crash, but the road was reopened just before noon.
