Man shot and killed after fight at Sunchild First Nation gas station
A man was shot and killed after a fight broke out at the Sunchild First Nation gas station Sunday morning.
RCMP said a "verbal altercation" took place between a man and another person at the station around 8:30 a.m.
The fight escalated, Mounties said, and the man was shot. He died at the scene.
The shooter left the station in what was described as a black Jeep Grand Cherokee.
The vehicle was located by police, according to a Monday news release from RCMP.
The RCMP has not yet released any details on the victim or the shooter.
RCMP Cpl. Troy Savinkoff said officers have not yet been able to find a connection between the suspect and the victim.
"I think it's fair that people be aware that this could have been a random act, tempered by the fact that there was an altercation first," said RCMP Cpl. Troy Savinkoff. "It is certainly concerning."
The major crimes unit has taken over the investigation.
Savinkoff said additional RCMP resources have been deployed to the community.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Rocky Mountain House RCMP at 403-845-2881.
