The NAIT Students' Association believes the NAIT Board of Governors is considering raising the Athletics and Recreation fee for students by nearly $100.

The Students' Association says the fee hike grows from $43 per year to $140 per year, which they say is a $97-increase without an increase in quality of facility and equipment.

"NAIT Students' Association supports every student in their co-curricular campus activities, including sports and recreation," said President Elect Govind Pillai. "We simply expect that NAIT will budget appropriately in order to provide the best quality of service for the majority of students."

The Association says NAIT has told them the increase brings the fees in line with other post secondary institutions in Alberta.

The Students' Association surveyed 3,000 students, and more than three quarters said they did not support the increase.

The Association hopes they can negotiate this fee with the board.

The board will be discussing the matter on Monday.
