Police east of Edmonton are investigating, after a collision on the highway just east of Sherwood Park left one dead.

RCMP said the crash occurred between a semi-truck and a pickup truck at about 2:30 p.m. Thursday, in the intersection of Wye Road and Highway 21.

Investigators said the semi was headed northbound on the highway, and the pickup was heading east on Wye Road.

It’s believed the pickup truck driver ran a red light just before the crash.

The 43-year-old male driver of the semi was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The 75-year-old male driver of the pickup truck was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police did not release any other details on the identity of the deceased, as officers are working on notifying his next-of-kin.

Traffic is expected to be disrupted in the area until about 7 p.m., while RCMP collision analysts investigate the scene.
