Police are on the hunt for 27-year-old Sawyer Clarke Robison, considered to be a person of interest in a shooting near Killam, Alberta, where two RCMP officers were wounded and one man was found dead.

Wednesday evening a source confirmed to CTV that the person killed in the incident was Robison's uncle Brad Clarke.

RCMP consider Robison a person-of-interest in the case, and describe him as:

  • 188 cm (6'2") tall
  • 90 kg (200 lbs.)
  • Has brown hair and brown eyes
  • He is very fit in appearance.

It's believed Robison may be driving a black, 2000 Chevrolet Silverado with Alberta license plate number UZE 545.

"We want to talk to the individual and want the public's help," RCMP spokesperson Patrick Webb said. "[The] only way we can resolve this issue is if we locate him."

Police said Robison's whereabouts are unknown at this time.

Robison was reportedly seen leaving the residence where the shooting took place, after four RCMP members, including Constables Sheldon Shah and Sidney Gaudette, arrived Tuesday afternoon.

They were on the property Tuesday afternoon to execute a search warrant for a .45-calibre handgun – related to a domestic dispute at a home in Hardisty on Friday.

Police said situation escalated and gunfire was exchanged - Gaudette was shot once in the torso, while Shah other was shot multiple times, sustaining injuries to his leg, groin, and upper torso.

"The reality is policing in rural or urban Alberta is a dangerous business," Alberta's Solicitor General Jonathan Denis said. "These people put their lives on the line every day for us and I want to thank them for their service."

One of the officers was transported to the University of Alberta Hospital, while the other was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital.

The two Mounties underwent surgery on Tuesday night and are now listed in stable condition.

"We are expecting that they will be able to fully recover from the shots that they sustained," said Webb.

Police say they believe Robison could be armed and dangerous.

Police say the 27-year-old should be considered a high risk, and members of the public should not approach him.

"It would be in Robison's best interests to call the nearest RCMP Detachment as soon as possible to make arrangements to speak with the investigators," said Webb.

The public is asked to call the RCMP Tip Line at 1-780-385-3502 or 911 immediately to report any sightings of him or the vehicle.
