Families staying at the Ronald McDonald House in Edmonton were surprised when professional skateboarder Ryan Sheckler stopped by Sunday afternoon.
The special visit was the second stop in the city for Sheckler, who originally arrived to meet with 17-year-old Elise Kwan.
Kwan requested that Sheckler be her prom date and through his foundation and the Ronald McDonald House, the two were able to meet in the hospital where Kwan is being treated for heart failure.
“We moved her to the corner of her room so she couldn’t see him walk into her room,” Kwan’s sister, Heather Hoang, explained.
“Her whole face turned red. She was so happy.
“She’ll be talking about it for days.”
The experience has been unforgettable for the skateboarder himself.
“I had such a blast. It really just opens my eyes.
“It is a really wild experience,” he told CTV News.
For some of the children staying at the Ronald McDonald House, the meeting had been long anticipated.
Twelve-year-old Owen Hammond said he had been looking forward to meeting Sheckler after his mom told him the star would be stopping by.
“I was pretty psyched.”
For Sheckler, the stop just reaffirms the work his foundation does.
“The youth is our future so I like to spend as much time and energy on that as I can.
“It is just a blessing. I feel very blessed and thankful to be here.”
