A Spruce Grove area mother is calling for changes to a stretch of roadway west of Edmonton.

Secondary Highway 628 just south of spruce grove has been causing worry for Christina Mowbray.

The mother of five said she drives the road multiple times a day but still fears for her family’s safety every time she gets behind the wheel.

According to Mowbray the road isn’t wide enough, there are no shoulders and the surface isn’t properly maintained.

“I actually had to call Stony Plain police for them to contact the contractor to bring sand to us,” she said.

Mowbray has reached out to government officials asking them to improve conditions for years, but hasn’t seen any progress.

“Just last winter alone we had a car rollover, we had a car that lost control and had to get towed out,” said Terry Snell, who also lives in the area. “It’s pretty rough.”

Mowbray said she was first on the scene when a 21-year-old lost control of his SUV and slammed into a tree in the ditch. According to her, that stretch of road is the worst due to lack of a shoulder.

Ideally, Mowbray said she would like to see guard rails installed, but for now it’s just a cross bearing Luke’s name.

“I missed a lot of work after Luke died, because I don’t want to live this, and I don’t want to be burying my family."
