Edmontonians are being asked to avoid the area of 109 Street near Whyte Avenue due to a water main break Saturday, that's expected to cause traffic delays for most of the day.

EPCOR said crews were responding to a water main break on 109 Street between 81 and 82 Avenue at around 11:15 a.m. Saturday.

Initially there were three blocks without water but by 12:30 p.m., water had been restored to two of the blocks.

Officials say the third block would be without water for some time.

Crews will be delivering emergency supplies to people from condominiums, apartment buildings and a Shoppers Drug Mart located on that block.

Water supplies are available at the EPCOR truck and residents will need to go to the truck to gather what they need.

Edmontonians are asked to the avoid the area and expect traffic delays for the rest of the day.

Officials say both north and southbound traffic on 109 Street is affected by the break.

Late Saturday EPCOR officials told CTV News they had found the source of the break but were still working to restore water.
