Starting late in 2016, there will be another grocery store option in Edmonton – when the first Whole Foods Market in Alberta opens.
Officials with Whole Foods said a 42,000 square foot Whole Foods Market will open in the fall of 2016 in the South Park Centre at 38 Avenue and Calgary Trail.
A new Whole Foods Market is also slated for Calgary – a plan is expected later this year, with an expected opening date in the summer of 2017.
A third location is expected to open in Victoria in the fall of 2016.
Currently, Whole Foods has ten stores in Canada, four in British Columbia and six in Ontario.
The company said in addition to construction jobs generated while each location is being built, each store will create about 150 jobs.
Whole Foods said their stores offer a selection of natural, organic and local products – in addition to offering a community butcher, fishmonger, baker and chefs.
