A woman is dead after she was struck by an ETS bus near 102 A Ave. and 97th St. just before 7 a.m. Wednesday.

Police say the bus was turning left at the intersection at 102A Avenue to head south on 97 Street when it hit the woman, who was crossing in a marked crosswalk.

Police and witnesses say the woman was pulled under the bus. She was taken to hospital where she later died.

Officers are working to piece together what exactly happened. Investigators are consulting video surveillance cameras in the area to see if anything was captured on tape.

A witness on the bus told CTV News he heard a loud thud.

They are also looking into whether the sun was a factor in the crash.

"That is something that will be investigated," said EPS spokesperson Clair Seyler. "There are many factors that will be looked at and this is one of them."

The bus driver involved is receiving counselling.

"Each and everyone of us all the bus drivers and the administrative side are moved by this tragic incident," said Charlie Stolte, Edmonton Transit manager.

Edmonton Transit says counselling has been made available to all bus drivers saying this tragedy affects the entire department.
