Police are now treating the death of a woman found lying on the side of an Edmonton street as a homicide.

On Tuesday, officers were called to the area near 79th Street and 121st Avenue on a report that a woman was lying on the road. A passerby called 911 before emergency crews arrived at the scene.

Michelle Lee Hadwen, 37, was rushed to hospital in critical condition but died a day later. The cause of her death not being released.

Homicide detectives say the woman's injuries and death were not as a result of a vehicle collision.

Investigators are now looking to speak with two individuals who may have seen or walked past the victim that morning.
