A teenaged boy is dead after a shooting in the area of Picard Drive in the Lewis Estates early Thursday.

Police say they were called to the area just after 11 p.m. Wednesday on a report of an injured male.

When officers arrived, the victim was found lying on the ground.

Investigators say the male victim succumbed to his injuries at around 1:30 a.m.

Residents were shocked to hear about the shooting.

"There's a little bit of breaking in of cars and that sort of stuff but I've never heard of anything like this happening before," said resident Burnadene Ebanks.

An autopsy has been scheduled for Thursday.

Police say a positive identification on the victim has not yet been made.

There have been reports of a suspect vehicle but that information has not been confirmed.

The teen's death pushes the city's homicide rate for the year to an all-time high of 45.
