Officials with Alberta Health Services (AHS) have issued a contaminated water advisory for Hasse Lake, located in Parkland County, southwest of Edmonton.

Elevated levels of fecal coliforms have been found in the water of the lake – and led AHS to issue the advisory.

Due to the advisory, the public is advised to not swim or wade in the lake, and to not drink water from the lake.

At current levels, AHS said skin ear and eye infections can result from coming in contact with the water, and ingesting the fecal coliforms and other water-borne organisms can cause vomiting and diarrhea.

AHS said Environmental Public Health officers will continue to monitor the lake, and the advisory is effective immediately, and will remain in place until further notice.
