Fire crews were busy Friday morning, at a two-alarm blaze that left west end strip mall destroyed.
Firefighters were called to the area on reports of flames and smoke, in the area of 156 Street and 95 Avenue, around 6:20 a.m.
Crews arrived to find the strip mall fully involved, with flames shooting from the roof of one business in the strip mall.
“There was a lot of smoke, a lot of flames, a lot of heat,” District Chief Ray Barron said on the scene. “We were really concerned for our guys.”
Nearby roads were shut down as crews dealt with the incident.
The blaze was contained to the strip mall – and was out in about two hours.
Officials said protecting a nearby gas station, was their first priority.
"The people that work at the gas station were really on the ball and shut down the gas right away and evacuated," Deputy Chief John Lamb said on the scene. "We are going to hold the fire from infringing on the gas station at this point."
No injuries were reported.
The building was completely destroyed in the blaze, damages to the structure are estimated at $1.5 million, there’s no estimate yet on the contents.
Officials said some of the contents may be salvageable.
Investigators are working to determine the cause of the blaze, officials said there were no immediate signs of arson.
