Edmonton police said a man, who was found dead following an apartment fire, was the victim of the city’s most recent homicide.

The man’s body was found in a burned-out apartment suite in the area of 106 Avenue and 122 Street on Tuesday morning.

Firefighters called police to the suite at about 5 a.m. Tuesday, April 19, the EPS Arson Unit and forensic identification team were sent to the scene as a precaution.

On Wednesday, an autopsy was carried out, and the medical Examiner confirmed he died from a gunshot wound.

The man’s identity has not been confirmed, so investigators are asking for help from the public to identify the victim, and notify next-of-kin. He has been described as:

  • Adult male
  • Caucasian
  • More than 172 cm (about 5’8”) tall
  • Weight described as “medium to large build”

At the time of his death, he was wearing jeans (True Religion brand), a black leather jacket, Nike running shoes and a watch, in addition to a ring with a distinct pattern, police released photos of the ring Thursday.
