RCMP in northern Alberta said an investigation into an aggravated assault from earlier in the month has become a suspicious death, as the victim injured in the original incident succumbed to his injuries.

Back on April 7, at about 3:45 a.m., Wood Buffalo RCMP were called to an aggravated assault on Franklin Avenue in Fort McMurray, between Father Mercredi Street and McLeod Street.

A male victim had suffered serious injuries, and was taken to hospital for treatment – he was later taken to hospital in Edmonton, but succumbed to his injuries Wednesday, April 12.

RCMP are investigating the circumstances surrounding the initial assault. An autopsy has been scheduled for Tuesday, April 18.
