Edmontonians are some of the most unfaithful in Canada, according to new data released Monday.
The data from extra-marital dating website Ashley Madison, lists Edmonton as the third-most adulterous city in Canada, with nearly 20,000 people signing up to the site last year.
The social network connects married individuals looking for ‘discreet extra-marital relationships.’
The year before, Edmonton ranked fourth most unfaithful based on 2011 numbers, suggesting more Edmontonians turned to cheating last year.
The company also says Edmonton has the highest percentage of male members over the age of 50.
Noel Biderman, founder and CEO of Ashley Madison, says the city’s corporate culture likely explains the high number of older, married men using the website.
“These large corporations are run by CEOs and senior execs that have power and influence, two things that make them feel invincible when it comes to having affairs,” Biderman said in a news release.
“My guess is they’re joining AshleyMadison.com essentially to avoid affairs with colleagues, something that used to be more common and detrimental to people’s careers.”
Ottawa took the top spot in the 2012 list, while Calgary came in at #2.

The extra-marital relationship website launched in 2002 and says it has more than 17 million users from across 25 countries.
