The Edmonton Oilers will not get any provincial funding for a downtown area, Premier Ed Stelmach said Monday.

"With respect to the province contributing to a new arena, it's not in the books," he said. "It's a private matter, a private sector matter, between the shareholders and Mr. Katz."

Last week billionaire Daryl Katz put in a $188 million offer to own the Edmonton Oilers. His proposal includes an additional $100 million to go towards a downtown arena.

The offer was Katz' fourth bid own the Oilers.

A city committee report on the viability of a new arena is scheduled to be released in January.

CTV will be airing Serena Mah's full interview with Premier Ed Stelmach on Dec. 25 at 6 p.m.
