Police south of Edmonton are investigating a collision that left one dead, and another injured on the Queen Elizabeth II Highway Monday night.

Leduc RCMP were called to the two vehicle collision on the highway about a kilometre south of 41 Avenue at about 11:30 p.m. Monday.

The collision involved a pickup truck and a semi-tractor trailer, and early investigation has shown the pickup struck the rear end of the semi.

The passenger in the pickup was pronounced dead at the scene, the 30-year-old male who was driving the truck was taken to hospital in Edmonton by an ambulance. He had non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the semi-tractor trailer was not hurt.

Traffic was diverted at 41 Avenue until about 2:30 a.m., RCMP said the crash was cleared before the morning commute.

Police are still investigating  the cause of the crash.
