RCMP said an officer had been charged, following an investigation into an incident that took place back in April.

On Tuesday, RCMP said Corporal Mark Potts of Peace Regional RCMP Detachment had been charged with assault causing bodily harm.

Police said the charge came in the wake of an RCMP investigation into an incident that took place on April 15, 2016.

The incident was reported April 20 by another RCMP officer to the Peace Regional RCMP Detachment Commander. The allegation said Cpl. Potts assaulted a prisoner while transporting him from Manning, Alberta, to Peace River.

Potts has been suspended since October 2016, he will stay off-duty until the criminal charges against him are resolved.

RCMP said his suspension is standard RCMP practice and isn’t disciplinary, his duty status will be reviewed when his charges are resolved.
