One man was taken to hospital early Thursday morning, after an altercation outside an Old Strathcona nightclub lead to a stabbing.

Police were called to the nightclub located on Gateway Boulevard near 83 Avenue just before 3 a.m.

Nightclub staff said they witnessed the incident, and security staff chased and caught the suspect.

“We’re assuming it’s a beer bottle, because we looked for a knife and couldn’t find anything,” Spencer De Klerk, a bouncer that helped catch the suspect said. “I chased the suspect across the road, he hid behind an SUV, as I went around the SUV to play cat and mouse with him, and he immediately headed north.

“He ran right into my other bouncers, and they took him down.”

The stabbing victim was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure, as police said his injuries were non-life threatening.

Police were on the scene for some time afterward, and members of the K9 unit were called in, to help find the weapon.

There’s no word on charges, or if officers managed to find the weapon.
