Edmonton police are on the lookout for a suspect, believed to have broken into a number of vehicles in the Hamptons neighbourhood Tuesday night.

Police said officers were called to the area of 204 Street and 54 Avenue at about 9:15 p.m. Tuesday on reports of a theft from a car. Officers arrived on the scene and patrolled the area on foot, and found the suspect in an alley in the area of 203 Street and 56 Avenue.

When the suspect was told he was being arrested, it’s alleged he produced a weapon and fled.

The EPS Canine Unit responded and tried to find the suspect. Meanwhile, residents were asked to stay indoors while police patrolled the neighbourhood.

The suspect was not located.

Investigators interviewed residents of the neighbourhood, who said the suspect tried to knock on several doors looking for help from neighbours.

On Wednesday, police said arrest warrants had been issued for Duane Edward Laver, 37. He is wanted for charges of possession of a weapon, carrying a concealed weapon, obstruction and two counts of possession of stolen property.

Anyone with information on Laver’s whereabouts or the incident is asked to call the Edmonton Police Service non-emergency line at 780-423-4567 or #377 on a mobile phone.
