Police south of Edmonton said Tuesday that investigators were seeking information to help them find a missing donkey, believed to have been stolen.

Leduc RCMP said on May 12, at about 1 p.m., a witness saw two women in an older model black Jeep Cherokee – with a donkey belonging to a local farmer – in the area of Township Road 482 and Rural Road 252 and 251.

Police said reports suggested the donkey was loaded into an unknown truck and trailer and taken away.

RCMP said the owner of the animal is upset about the theft, calling the donkey a family pet.

A notice has been sent to livestock officials, and RCMP are monitoring social media in an attempt to find the animal.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the donkey are asked to contact Leduc RCMP at 780-980-7200, 780-980-7231 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
