RCMP are investigating after a threat to children at a school was posted on a social media website.

Police stress that at no point in the investigation so far, has the safety of any children or a school, been in jeopardy.

Leduc RCMP say they were first alerted about someone who had posted a comment on a social media website, stating that children from a school would be injured, on Wednesday.

No specific schools were named in the post.

Upon receiving the complaint, police identified the youth who made the comment lived in Devon, Alta.

An investigation was launched with the RCMP Tech Crime unit, Leduc and Devon RCMP.

Police searched the youth’s home and found no firearms and no indication that the youth had access to firearms.

Local schools in the Devon area were notified of the allegations.

Police say the young person is under adult supervision and there is no indication that he was going to carry out the threat.

RCMP continue to investigate, but assure the public that “at no point was the safety of children and the school in jeopardy in relation to this individual’s comments.”

The incident comes after Edmonton police charged two teenagers this week for uttering threats via text message and in an online chat room.

Edmonton Police said any threat – whether it’s verbal or through social media – to a person, group or location, is a crime.
