Slave Lake RCMP said an investigation was underway after a crash on Highway 2 left one dead early Friday morning.

RCMP said officers, paramedics and firefighters were called to the collision on the highway, more than 50 kilometres south of Slave Lake at about 2:20 a.m. Friday.

Following the crash, investigators have found that a southbound pickup truck had crossed left of centre, ended up in the ditch, and hit a guardrail before rolling down an embankment.

There were two people inside the vehicle when it crashed – and both managed to get out before the truck burst into flames.

However, one of the men, an adult male, succumbed to his injuries, and a second man was airlifted by STARS Air Ambulance.

Police said the identity of the deceased was not being released until next of kin have been notified.
