After a lengthy investigation following the death of a toddler who drowned in a Morinville pond, RCMP have laid charges against the parents.

Trevor and Robin MacDonald have been jointly charged with one count of Failing to Provide the Necessaries of Life in relation to the death of their two and a half year old daughter.

The incident happened on July 25, 2015 in the Lakes subdivision in Morinville.

The girl was playing at the park with her siblings when she went missing.

RCMP responded quickly, but found the child unresponsive in a nearby pond, and pronounced her dead after lifesaving efforts were unsuccessful.

The parents will appear in Morinville Provincial Court on August 4, 2016.
