RCMP say road conditions were slippery at the time a fatal collision occurred east of Edmonton Thursday morning.

Strathcona County RCMP said emergency crews were called the collision at approximately 8:40 a.m. Thursday on Anthony Henday Drive, near Wye Road.

Police on the scene told CTV News a 26-year-old Edmonton man had been driving his SUV south on the Henday, when it’s believed he lost control, and hit the median.

The SUV then flipped over the median, landing on its roof in the northbound lanes – before it was hit by a northbound truck.

The driver of the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 21-year-old male driver of the truck was taken by STARS Air Ambulance to hospital with life-threatening injuries, the 19-year-old female passenger was taken by ground ambulance to hospital with serious injuries. Both individuals were from Edmonton.

The identity of the deceased is not being released at this time, pending notification of next of kin.

Police say speed and alcohol are not considered factors in the crash.

Road conditions were slippery with icy sections.
