The Edmonton Flu Care Clinic that opened 10 days ago at the former Woodcroft Health Centre is being shut down.

The clinic will close at 11 p.m. Monday.

As of Monday morning, 266 people had accessed services at the clinic which has been open daily since January 10 from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m.

The flu assessment clinic was created to take pressure off emergency rooms which have seen above average numbers during flu season.

Staff at the clinic has been providing assessment, treatment and advice to patients requiring care for moderate flu symptoms.

Alberta Health Services meantime is urging residents to plan on getting immunized next flu season when the vaccine becomes available again.

More than 1 million Albertans have been vaccinated since October.

As of January 15, there had been 2,220 lab confirmed cases of influenza this season, 442 flu-related hospitalizations, 49 Albertans currently in ICU and 10 influenza attributed deaths in the province.
