Edmonton police have charged three men in connection to the apparent random assault of a man at a downtown LRT station in November.

Police said officers were called to Churchill LRT station at about 8:20 p.m. on November 10 – where an argument started between a lone man and a group of males and females on the concourse level of the station.

The argument reportedly escalated when the man was followed onto the LRT platform by two men from the group – who assaulted him, and threw him onto the LRT tracks.

When the man tried to climb off the tracks, it’s believed a third male from the group joined in and prevented him from climbing off.

A number of bystanders intervened, and helped the 49-year-old man off the tracks.

Transit officers detained the three males, until police arrived.

The man was treated on the scene for minor injuries, then taken to hospital.

Police have charged Irwin Keshane, 35, Wesley Osecap, 18, and Dean Rain, 25, have each been charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault.

The accused have all been scheduled to appear in court on December 4.

Investigators believe the incident is random.
