Hobbema police said the investigation into the weekend death of a teenaged boy continues.
Wetaskiwin/Hobbema RCMP said an autopsy in the case had been scheduled for Monday.
The investigation began after local RCMP and emergency crews were called to a firearms complaint on the Samson townsite at about 4:15 a.m. Saturday.
When officers arrived, they found a 16-year-old male suffering from gunshot wounds – police said the teen was rushed to hospital, but succumbed to his injuries.
It’s believed the incident was not random, and might have been gang-related.
An autopsy has been scheduled for Monday.
Detectives are asking anyone with information on this incident to call Hobbema RCMP.
