Hundreds of people full of nerves and excitement are packing into a local restaurant on Sunday night, eager to learn if local talent Jeff Mortensen will take this year's top spot in the hit TV show So You Think You Can Dance Canada.

The 22-year-old, who was born in Edmonton, is in the top four for the season's finale and will perform live on CTV, starting at 7 p.m.

His sister Kirsten says about 175 of his family members, friends and fans will watch him perform from Richard's Pub and Dunluce Steak House & Pizza, located at 121st Street and 161st Avenue.

"We're all pretty excited, nervous," she said in the hours leading up to the results show.

"No matter what happens we're really excited for him. He's done so amazing so we really can't be upset if he doesn't win."

Kirsten says Mortensen trained 16-hours a day as a gymnast growing up and did Ukrainian dancing on the side, before joining the famous Shumka troupe.

She says he started to take dancing more seriously after he scored a job with Cirque de Soleil in Las Vegas.

"I think his focus kind of switched and it got to become more of a reality for him," she said.

"I'm very proud of him. He's accomplished a lot in such a small amount of time."

Mortensen was cut from the show after making it into the top 40 during season two, and auditioned again in Vancouver this year after moving west to train in different genres of dance.

His sister credits his determination and level-headed attitude for making it this far in the competition.

"He's a very focused person, so even from day one he said, ‘I'm just going to have fun with it. If I mess up… I just move on because I can't do anything about it, and don't stress over it,'" she said.

She says her entire family has been touched by the outpour of encouragement from friends and strangers across the country.

"We're very overwhelmed by it and I think that's the most shocking part of the whole thing is the amount of support we're getting. It's absolutely incredible," she said.

"On behalf of Jeff and the family we'd just like to say thank you so, so much… It's the best feeling."
