Following a snowfall warning issued by Environment Canada, many Edmontonians were scrambling to enjoy the final day without flurries.

Originally from Toronto, Angel Khattra, said she was still adjusting to how cold winter can be in the city.

“I think I am still in denial. I really don’t want to believe that winter is on the way yet.”

CTV Metorologist Josh Classen estimates up to 20 centimetres of snow could hit the ground by Monday.

Something the City said it was prepared to tackle.

“All the materials are in place, the equipment is ready to go. The staff are on the 24 hour rotating shifts,” director of roadway maintenance, Bob Dunford said.

“The first snowfall of the year is always a bit challenging. Just remember to adjust your driving habits and be ready for it,” Dunford advised drivers.

According to The Tire Warehouse, many Edmonton drivers will be ready.

Store manager Randy Rewega said over the past few years he has seen an increase in drivers installing winter tires.

Rewega added that his store has also seen an increase in calls over the past few days.

“Everybody has been trying to get in and get it done in a panic so we’re slightly overloaded.”

In addition, RCMP have been asking motorists to avoid travel on Highway 2 between Red Deer and Didsbury due to reduced visibility and slippery sections.
