Fire crews in central Alberta are trying to figure out what caused an historic building to go up in flames overnight.

They responded to the scene around 11:30 p.m. Sunday in the Hamlet of Mirror, about 40 kilometers east of Lacombe. The old hotel was destroyed by fire.

Crews from several communities were needed to bring the blaze under control. Mounties say the hotel had been closed for some time so it's believed to have been empty at the time.
