With help from Edmontonians a Tanzanian family will be moving into their own home this Christmas.
The Mgonja family has been staying at the Ronald McDonald House for the last eight months, while their 4-year-old daughter was being treated for Leukemia.
Family friends, Louise Solbrekken and Lindsay Mercer, stepped up and placed an ad on Kijiji asking for help.
Mercer said she was inspired by the response.
“How willing individuals are to just come on board when somebody has a vision for someone in need and they just give selflessly.”
“We are so thankful for all the people that joined and helped us make this miracle possible,” Solbrekken added.
Donations have been used to cover the family’s first month rent, furniture and even put gifts under their tree.
The parents of four, Happy and Boniface said they were overwhelmed by the help.
“Sometimes when you get something that is really exciting you don’t have any way to say it and exactly that is what I felt,” Boniface explained.
“There is nothing you’ll say to satisfy the feeling you had.”
Happy said they were thankful for the Ronald McDonald House but were happy to have their own place.
“We feel at home here.”
Their daughter, Joanne, called it a miracle.
“I am feeling like home now.”
